Product description

Def Muscle is a new development tool for musculoskeletal model that can perform analyses of human movements by considering muscle volumetric shape and its deformation arising from collisions with other muscles and bones. Def Muscle can simulate complicated muscles paths even around the shoulder and torso, which was almost impossible with conventional models ignoring muscle volume.
Muscle shape is represented by a number of mass points located in a 3D grid. Although usually computational burden in simulating such a large degree of freedom is very high, Def Muscle resolves this issue by computing the equations of the motions in parallel with GPU. Def Muscle can predict natural muscle paths by avoiding collisions among muscles and bones. Def Muscle enhances the accuracy of forward/inverse dynamics calculation due to its capability of dealing with posture-dependent change in muscle action force.
Def muscle can be applied to following fields;
1) Anatomy education: Recently, computer-based 3D visualization tools are available for anatomy education. However, most of them cannot visualize how muscles are deformed depending on limb posture. Def Muscle is a state-of-the-art software which can perform such a feat.
2) Biomechanics-related field: The effect of muscle force on joint rotations is critically important in biomechanics-related field such as ergonomics, rehabilitation, and sports. Since Def Muscle is designed to accurately predict the muscle action, it is expected to increase the accuracy of analyses of human movements in all of the related fields. It is also an advantage that it enables detailed analyses of the shoulder and scapula motions which have been long said to be a key for improving or enhancing human motor performance.
3) Motor Neuroscience: Def Muscle allows Neuroscientists to investigate how the brain controls muscle force because it can provide with quantitative information about posture-dependent change in muscle torque-generating capacity.
